چکیده
Abstract Introduction Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T) is a multi-system disorder that may be associated with endocrine changes, oxidative stress in addition to inflammation. Studies suggest selenium trace element related protection against damage caused by stress. Objective To describe the plasma levels of and erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity A-T patients relate them lipid status biomarkers. Methods This cross-sectional controlled study evaluating 22 (age median, 12.2 years old) matched gender age 18 healthy controls. We evaluated: nutritional status, food intake, levels, activity, inflammation Results Adequate were observed 24/36 (66.7%) this evaluated population. There was no statistically significant difference between groups [47.6 μg/L (43.2–57.0) vs 54.6 (45.2–62.6) μg/dL, p = 0.242]. Nine (41%) had below reference value. The group presented higher LDL-c, non-HDL-c, oxidized LDL, Apo B, Apo-B/Apo-A-I1, LDL-c/HDL-c ratio, malondialdehyde [3.8 µg/L 2.8 µg/L, 0.029] lower Apo-A-I1/HDL-c [7300 U/L 8686 U/L, 0.005]. Selenium influenced, both groups, independently, concentrations malonaldehyde non-HDL-c. LDL (AUC 0.849) ALT 0.854) variables showed greatest discriminatory power groups. Conclusion In conclusion, we presence value nearly 40% low GPx patients. significant, inverse independent association Those data reinforce importance assessing those

Glutathione peroxidase activity, lipid peroxides and selenium status in blood in patients with Down's syndrome.
The concentrations of selenium and lipid peroxides and the catalytic activity of glutathione peroxidase were measured in the blood of 6 children (6-16 years of age) and 8 adults (17-27 years old) with Down's syndrome (trisomy 21). The values were compared with those for a control group of age-matched normal people. The selenium concentration in whole blood, erythrocytes and plasma was significa...
متن کاملSerum Levels of Zinc, Copper, Selenium and Glutathione Peroxidase in Different Groups of Colorectal Cancer Patients
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is considered the fourth type of cancer that causes death in the world. Changes in levels of Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), and Selenium (Se) as well as low glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity can lead to CRC and this study was aimed to evaluate their possible use as diagnostic markers. Methods: CRC patients (n=90) were divided into three groups; newly diagnosed,...
متن کاملThe relationship between nutritional status, vitamin A and zinc levels and oxidative stress in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia.
BACKGROUND Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare and degenerative disease that leads to varying degrees of immunodeficiency, oxidative stress, and malnutrition. Vitamin A and zinc are essential for immune function and antioxidant defence. OBJECTIVE To compare levels of retinol, beta carotene, and zinc in patients with ataxia-telangiectasia and healthy controls. METHODS We performed a cross-...
متن کاملassociation between plasma selenium and glutathione peroxidase levels and severity of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type two diabetes mellitus
conclusions plasma se and gpx levels were lower in type two diabetic patients with macroalbuminuria and related to the stage of diabetic nephropathy. results plasma se and gpx concentrations were significantly lower in diabetic patients with macroalbuminuria than other study groups (p < 0.001). albuminuria (alb/cr in random urine sample) had a negative correlation with plasma se (r = -0.40, p =...
